fashion industry: is a multi-billion dollar company dedicated to manufacturing and selling apparel. Some witnesses distinguish between the fashion industry (which is “high fashion”) and the clothing industry (which is casual clothing or “mass fashion”). Still, by the 1970s, the lines between them had become blurred.
Fashion is the style or styles of clothing and accessories worn by groups of people at a particular time. Here may seem to be differences between the expensive designer clothes on the catwalks of Paris or New York and the mass-produced leisurewear and street styles sold in malls and markets worldwide.
However, the fashion industry encompasses the design, production, distribution, marketing, retailing, advertising, and promotion of all types of clothing (men’s, women’s, and children’s), from the rarest and expensive garments (i.e., “haute couture”). . And from designer fashions to everyday wear – from couture ball gowns to casual sweatpants.
The broad term “fashion industries” is sometimes used to refer to industries and services that employ millions of people internationally.
Key Sectors of the Fashion Industry
Most fashions are made of fabrics. The partial automation of spinning and weaving wool, cotton and other natural fibres were one of the first achievements of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. In the 21st century, these processes are performed by highly automated and high-speed computer-controlled machines.
A large sector of the textile industry crops fabrics for use in clothing. Usual fibres (such as wool, cotton, silk and linen) and artificial fibres (such as nylon, acrylic and polyester) are used. A rising interest in sustainable fashion (or “eco-fashion”) has led to greater use of eco-friendly fibres such as hemp.
High-tech synthetic fabrics are moisture absorbent (e.g. Coolmax), stain resistant (e.g. 303 Hi-Tech Fabric Guard), retain or dissipate body heat and resist fire, weapons (e.g. Kevlar), cold (e.g. .thinsulate) provides similar properties. , UV radiation (solar wave) and other hazards.
Fabrics are produced through dyeing, weaving, printing and other manufacturing and finishing processes with a wide range of effects. Along with fashion analysts, textile manufacturers work well before the garment production cycle to create fabrics with colours, textures, and other qualities that anticipate consumer demand.
